Vertical Mill I

Gain hands-on experience with vertical mills and learn how to machine precision parts out of aluminum, steel, and machinable plastics.

Topics covered include:

• basic theory of operation
• feeds and speeds
• milling
• drilling
• threading
• lubrication
• tooling
• work-holding

Students will practice facing, contouring, slotting techniques.

This class is an intro to using the vertical mills at TXRX machine shop and a prerequisite for the Vertical Mill II: CNC Milling workshop.

Completion of this workshop grants TXRX members access to machine shop studio hours.
